What the release record reports

The release record exposes what passed, what failed, what was inherited and what remains unknown.

The labels describe checks recorded for a release. Read the scope and the evidence; a recorded label is not independent certification.

Passed

The release record reports that a check passed. Read what was checked and the evidence attached.

Failed

The release record reports that a check failed. Inspect the recorded failure and its limits.

Inherited

The release record identifies information carried forward. Check its original context and date.

Unknown

The record identifies an unresolved question. Missing evidence remains visible.

Separate the different kinds of statement

What the original source reports, with its attribution and context.

Interpretation

An explanation of what the reported information may mean.

Forecast

A possible future development to test against later evidence.

How to check a claim

  1. Open the original source. Read the full statement in its original context.
  2. Compare the dates and scope. Distinguish the event date, publication date and observation time.
  3. Read the limits. Look for missing evidence and what could change the view.

A linked source is not blanket proof of every associated claim.
